FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to the method for preparing the alicyclic diol compound of the formula (1), which can be used as a raw material for polyester resins. Method comprises introducing 4-isopropenyl-1-methyl-1-cyclohexene of formula (4) into reaction with carbon monoxide in the presence of hydrogen fluoride in order to obtain the alicyclic dicarboxylic acid fluoride of the formula (3), introducing the resulting compound of formula (3) into the reaction with alcohol in order to prepare the ester compound of the alicyclic dicarboxylic acid of formula (2) and to reduce the resulting compound of the formula (2) in order to obtain the alicyclic diol compound of formula (1): where R is an alkyl functional group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms.

EFFECT: proposed method is environmentally friendly with respect to carbon neutrality.
