FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to protection of documents from falsification and a method of obtaining an image which identifies authenticity of a data medium. When carrying out the method, image pixels are divided into sub-pixel regions, each being a diffraction grating which reflects one of the primary colours. An image is formed by partially breaking down diffraction gratings into sub-pixel regions. The gratings are broken down by laser engraving by modulating intensity, duration and the number of laser pulses using precise positioning of the laser beam on elements of the pixel matrix and special-purpose optical marks.
EFFECT: simplification of the method and forming images in one diffraction layer.
