FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a reaction chamber for exothermic material. The chamber comprises a multilevel structure, which includes at least: a receptacle (1) for said material (10), corresponding to a lower level; a middle level comprising a chemically active load (4); and an upper level having a cover. The stored material is, in a special case, plutonium carbide and/or uranium carbide. The chemically active load (4) comprises at least one alkali-earth metal carbonate so as to absorb heat released during oxidation of said material. Said alkali-earth metal carbonate decomposes under the effect of heat in an endothermic reaction.
EFFECT: low risk of chemical hazard when storing uranium and/or plutonium compounds.
