FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical and metallurgical industry. The method of producing hydrogen cyanide by catalytic dehydration of gaseous formamide involves a combination of catalytic dehydration and an exothermic reaction. The exothermic reaction is catalytic burning of combustible gases with oxygen supply. Dehydration is carried out using a reactor having two liquid channels separated from each other by a common wall, one of which is meant for dehydration of formamide and the other for carrying out the exothermic reaction. The reactor is tubular and consists of two parallel layers A and B placed one over the other. Each layer is a plate structured by reaction channels. Catalytic dehydration is carried out in layer A and the exothermic reaction is carried out in layer B.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain hydrogen cyanide with high degree of conversion and selectivity in compact reactors.
