SUBSTANCE: invention relates to high-resolution colour television. Besides intraframe interpolation (extrapolation), the present method of generating image signals employs interpolation (extrapolation) on the direction of distribution of colour components, where calculation of values of levels of missing pixels of the colour components of each separate image signal element with fixed coordinates is carried out based on use of the value of levels of other colour components of said pixel. The missing discrete values of the same colour components on coordinates obtained via interpolation are summed to obtain the resultant value of the pixel of the colour component, with preliminary multiplication of said values with weight coefficients. To improve the accuracy of recovering missing values of colour components, interpolation on both the spatial and inter-colour directions is carried out with calculation of values of intermediate pixels, which are obtained using values of original pixels adjacent to the recovered pixels. Inter-pixel differences are calculated, which indicate the contribution of each intermediate pixel value in the final value of the recovered pixel.

EFFECT: improved quality of recovering missing pixel values of colour component signals, higher image definition, reduced distortion and maintaining the colour grade.
