FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of hexagonal pipe billets. This process comprises rolling at Pilger mill of ESR hollow bimetal ingots with bottom and shrinkage parts from ductile carbon grades of steel. Height of said ingots makes 0.06-0.07 and 0.08-0.10 of their total height that make the seed ends and Pilger heads. Said ingots are bored and turned on bottom side to hollow ingots-billets of specified sizes. The latter are heated and rerolled to pipe sets of specified sizes at mandrels with rolling-out µ of 10.13-10.86 and diameter reduction Δ of 36.2-37.6%. Pilger heads and seed ends are removed to obtain pipe sections from steel of ductile carbon grades, 500-700 mm in length. Then said pipe sets are cut by hot-cutting saw to pipe lengths and straightened. These are shaped to hexagonal ingots-billets of preset sizes.
EFFECT: lower metal input and lower production costs.
