FIELD: agriculture.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a device and method for detecting the upcoming or the started state of oestrus in dairy animal in the milk room. The configuration of the device enables to use it by performing the following steps: a) determining the area under study, covering two or more independent zones with outlet temperature, including a site of the rear part of this dairy animal, at that the area under study comprises a part of the dairy animal, which can be subjected to physical effect during oestrus, and at that one independent outlet value of temperature is a consequence of this physical effect on this part of the animal, b) measuring the outlet values of the temperature of this area using at least one sensor mounted in a permanent or semipermanent position in the milk room, and c) the use of the measurement results obtained in step b) to determine the presence of upcoming or started state of oestrus.

EFFECT: use of the invention enables to determine in a dairy animal the presence of state of oestrus or proximity of start of this state.
