FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method of checking air-tightness of a capsule with an ionising radiation source includes immersing the capsule into a solution, collecting a sample of the solution for radioactive control, the method being characterised by that a decontaminated capsule, placed in a vessel with 7-10% nitric acid solution, is first heated and boiled for 10 minutes; the vessel with the capsule is then cooled for 15-20 minutes, followed by heating the vessel to boiling conditions two more times and then cooling the vessel; after the third cooling, a 50 ml sample of the nitric acid solution is then collected from the vessel and its radioactivity is measured, wherein if the radioactivity of the sample does not exceed 0.2 kBq, the capsule is considered airtight.

EFFECT: simpler technique of checking air-tightness of a capsule with an ionising radiation source.
