FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of obtaining triamantan of formula I . Polycyclic hydrocarbons of C18H24 composition, obtained from heptacyclic norbornadiene dimer - binora-S, heptacyclo[8.8.0.02,17.03,11.04,9.012,16.013,18]octadecane and heptacyclo[8.8.0.02,13.03,11.04,9.012,17.014,18]octadecane, are subjected to skeletal isomerisation in presence of ionic liquids of composition 2AlCl3+Et3N·HCl or 2.5AlCl3+Et3N·HCl at temperature 20-50°C for 2-72 h with molar ratio of reagents [hydrocarbons (C18H24)]:[ionic liquid]=1:2-4, in argon atmosphere.
EFFECT: method uses available catalysts and makes it possible to increase output of target compound and simplify technology on the whole.
