FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 1,3-dimethyladamantane of formula (1) by catalytic isomerisation of perhydroacenaphthene. The method is characterised by that the catalyst used is zeolite HNaY with degree of ion exchange of Na+ for H+ 97%, subjected t heat treatment at 450°C for 3-5 hours in an air atmosphere, taken in amount of 50-100% with respect to perhydroacenaphthene (2), and the reaction is carried out in hexane with weight ratio [perhydroacenaphthene]:[hexane]=100:50-100 at temperature of 300-320°C or 3-15 hours.
EFFECT: use of the present invention with simple equipment and process set-up enables to obtain 1,3-dimethyladamantane using a readily available catalyst with high selectivity while eliminating the corrosion problem.
