FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: patient's neck ultrasonic examination is performed. The qualitative and quantitative parameters of each parathyroid state are determined to assess a morphological form of hyperplasia. The qualitative parameters are echogenicity and structure of each involved parathyroid. The qualitative parameter is a resistance index in intraglandular vessels. Diffuse parathyroid hyperplasia is diagnosed if observing the uniform structure of the parathyroid with no intraglandular blood flow observed, or if observing the uniform structure in a combination with a resistance index in the intraglandular arteries of less than 0.65. Nodular hyperplasia is diagnosed if the patient has the uniform structure of the parathyroid with the resistance index in the intraglandular vessels of 0.65 or more, or the non-uniform structure with any resistance index in the intraglandular arteries.

EFFECT: technique enables increasing the diagnostic accuracy in the morphological forms of parathyroid hyperplasia by specifying the structure of each parathyroid as a qualitative parameter, and the resistance index in the intraglandular vessels as a quantitative parameter.
