FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and recycling wastes thereof, and can be used to obtain solutions containing fluoride ions (electrolytes) and used to conduct electrolysis and chemical reactions in the solutions with the participation of fluoride ions to produce commercial products, particularly hydrogen, ultrafine metal oxides and other compounds. The method includes thermal decomposition of PTFE in electric discharge plasma in an alternating electric field with alternating voltage amplitude of 5-12 kV. The electric discharge is excited between electrodes. One of the electrodes is placed over a water surface at a distance which ensures a stable discharge. The other electrode is immersed in the water.
EFFECT: more complete recycling of PTFE processing products while simplifying the method by converting part of the gaseous processing products into a solution directly during thermal decomposition.
