SUBSTANCE: invention relates to field of organic chemistry, namely to method of obtaining substituted quinolines of formula

57-96%, where R1 and R2 = H; R1 = CH3, R2 = H; R1 = H, R2 = CH3; X = H, o-CH3, m-CH3, p-CH3, o-C2H5, o-Cl, m-Cl, p-Cl, p-OMe, o-OH, by interaction of anilines with 1,3-diols under action of catalysts, characterised by the fact that substituted anilines of formula XC6H4NH2, where X is as given above, is subjected to interaction with 1,3-diols (1,3-propanediol or 1,3-butanediol) and CCl4 in presence of catalyst, selected from the group FeCl3·6H2O, FeCl3, FeCl2·4H2O, Fe(C5H5)2, Fe(acac)3, Fe(OAc)2 and Fe2(CO)9, with molar ratio [catalyst]:[aniline]:[CCl4]:[diol]=1:100:200:400, at 150°C for 8 h, obtained reaction mass is neutralized, organic layer is extracted with CH2Cl2, filtered and solvent is distilled.

EFFECT: novel method of obtaining substituted quinolines, characterised by cheapening of final product production cost due to application of available initial reagents, has been elaborated.
