FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry, in particular to a process for the preparation of alkyl esters of ortho- and para-hydroxybenzoic acids, which are used as starting compounds for the preparation of medicaments. Method comprises reacting phenol with carbon tetrachloride and alcohols (MeOH, EtOH, PrnOH, BunOH) in the presence of a catalyst selected from FeBr3, FeCl3*6H2O, Fe2(CO)9, FeCl2, FeCl3, Fe(acac)3, FeCl2*4H2O, at a molar ratio of [Fe] : [phenol] : [CCl4] : [ROH] = 1–10:100:300–1000:300–1000, at a temperature of 130 °C for 4–8 hours in an argon atmosphere. Following ratios of the catalyst and reactants are optimal for the reaction: [Fe2(CO)9]:[phenol]:[CCl4]:[ROH]=5:100:500:500, at a temperature of 130 °C for 6 hours. Under these conditions, the output of methyl esters of ortho- and para-hydroxybenzoic acids is 18 % and 20 %, respectively, ethyl – 28 % and 45 %, propyl – 34 % and 66 % and butyl 38 and 62 % respectively.
EFFECT: method of producing alkyl esters of ortho- and para-hydroxybenzoic acids is proposed.
