FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: in application, system and method for vehicle engine operation are described, in particular, for commercial vehicle where transmission connected with the engine has free play mode. The engine is stopped by establishing transmission free play mode and interruption of fuel feed to the engine in free play mode depending on one or more vehicle operation conditions. Transmission gear is selected in advance depending on one or more current vehicle maneuverers which presumptively will be required at specified moment or within specified time limit after engine restart.
EFFECT: vehicle engine control with improved balance of CO2 emissions from vehicle.
