METHOD FOR SELECTING PATIENTS SUFFERING CHRONIC TIC DISORDERS FOR PRESCRIBING VALPROATE THERAPY Russian patent published in 2015 - IPC A61B5/476 A61K31/19 A61P25/08

Abstract RU 2562894 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: video-assisted waking electroencephalographic monitoring is performed. If the EEG has recorded regional, multifocal, generalised epileptiform activity also observed as a secondary bilateral synchrony of spike wave, spike slow wave, polyspike wave patterns in a combination with tic hyperkinesis accompanied by no epileptic seizures, tic disorders associated with EEG-based epileptiform activity are diagnosed. Thereafter, the initial treatment is added with valproates supposed to be administered in a daily dose of no more than 15 mg/kg a day in two steps by dose titration. First, a dose of 10 mg/kg a day is administered for 5 days. That is followed by the continuous administration of a dose of no more than 15 mg a day for one year and a half. Neuroleptics are supposed to be removed from the therapeutic schedule.

EFFECT: method provides optimising the therapeutic approach, reducing the length of the therapeutic course and a severity of clinical manifestations of tic hyperkinesis, as well as a drug load, and avoiding the disease transformation into a therapy-resistant form.
