FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is referred to magnetic resonance imaging, in particular, to power supply sources of magnetic field gradient coils for magnetic resonance imaging systems. The power supply source of a gradient coil for a magnetic resonance imaging system comprises at least two H-bridge circuits; H-bridge circuits are connected in series; each H-bridge circuit supplies voltage of the first polarity when H-bridge is in the first switching state; each H-bridge circuit supplies voltage of the second polarity when H-bridge is in the second switching state; each H-bridge circuit does not supply power when in the third switching state; each H-bridge circuit does not supply power when in the fourth switching state; and a controller for switching control of H-bridge circuits, at that the controller is designed to receive the sequence of gradient pulses; generate a switching plan to control switching of each H-bridge circuit; the switching plan contains control by voltage output of the power source for the gradient coil by the change between the first switching state and the second switching state; the switching plan contains additionally the actuation of at least one H-bridge circuit either in the third or fourth switching state for a part of the switching plan in order to cool H-bridge circuit down; implementation of the switching plan.

EFFECT: increase in the current supplied by the supply source to the gradient coil.
