SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of sorption technology and can be used to produce activated carbons (AC) used for detoxification of soil, detoxification of feed and combined feed in the poultry and livestock husbandry, water treatment and waste water treatment, as well as to remove harmful impurities from liquids. The method of production of activated carbon from plant material - straw of cruciferous oil crops (such as rape, radish, bird rape, mustard, false flax and niger) comprises crushing the initial straw, its carbonization, activation with water vapour and grinding, and before carbonization the crushed pieces are pressurized in briquettes having the volume of 0.05-0.10 dm3 at a pressure of 500-1200 kg/cm2, carbonization is carried out at a temperature rise rate of 1-4°C/min to the final temperature of 700-750°C, and the activation is carried out at a temperature of 820-840°C.

EFFECT: method enables to obtain activated carbon with adsorption ability with respect to the active ingredients of the herbicide Galera clopyralid and picloram remaining in the soil after application, higher than that of known activated carbons.
