FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for preparing thiophene and 2-thiophene-thiol, comprising a reaction between an excess of hydrogen sulphide and furane at a temperature of 25°C and atmospheric pressure, wherein a sterically hindered o-benzoquinone catalyst added to the reaction mix of hydrogen sulphide and furane, the said catalyst being regularly regenerated in the flow of atmospheric oxygen. The target products were separated using a standard method. Achieved process selectivity of 90-92%.
EFFECT: improved process for preparing thiophene and 2-thiophene-thiol, reduced power consumption due to replacement of electrochemical activation of hydrogen sulphide to generate a cation radical by chemical oxidation in the presence of a specific cheap catalyst, avoiding the use of organic solvents.
