FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the foot is performed. A section direction is oriented in a coronary plane along an axis of the first instep bone. The first instep bone and the chondral layer of the head of the first instep bone are visualised. A border of the chondral layer of the head of the first instep bone is separated. Lateral and medial extreme points are marked on the magnetic resonance image on the articulation surface of the head of the first instep bone on the interface of the cartilage and bone. A line of a longitudinal axis of the diaphysis of the first instep bone and a perpendicular to a line connecting the extreme points on the articulation surface of the head of the first instep bone are drawn. An angle between the line of the longitudinal axis of the diaphysis of the first instep bone and the perpendicular is measured.

EFFECT: higher accuracy of measuring the inclination of the articulation surface of the head of the first instep bone before surgical management, selecting the optimum surgical approach, reducing a rate of recurrences, reducing the length of treatment by performing foot magnetic resonance imaging, visualising and delimitating the chondral layer of the head of the instep bone accurately.
