FIELD: instrumentation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to short-range location and industrial level meters. Claimed process consists in processing of difference frequency signal resulted from mixing of emitted and reflected signal frequency modulated by linear law. Note here that processing is performed in time area and comprises the measurement at interval of the analysis of difference signal half-cycle number, first half-cycle start time and last half-cycle end time. The latter are used with due allowance for modulation parameters for computation of measured distance.

EFFECT: ruled out discreteness error, simplified measurement at analogue and digital modulation of emitted signal.
