SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement equipment, in particular to measurement of distance and speed in frequency radar. Disclosed method of measuring distance and radial velocity consists in an iterative process of determining the required law of frequency modulation of the generated signal. As a result of multiple estimates of radial speed and distance, the law of frequency modulation of the generated signal is selected such that the level of parasitic frequency modulation (PFM) in the difference frequency signal (DFS) decreases, at that, irrespective of the form of the DFS parasitic amplitude modulation (PAM), distortions of the main lobe of the DFS spectrum are eliminated and errors in measuring the radial velocity of the probed object and the distance to it are reduced.
EFFECT: high measurement accuracy due to reduced effect of parasitic frequency modulation (PFM) and parasitic amplitude modulation (PAM) of a difference frequency signal (DFS) with an increase in the frequency modulation range.
