FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of measurement technology, in particular to measuring distance in a near frequency radar of industrial use, for example in level gauges. This result is achieved due to the fact that a linear connection of middle frequency of the difference signal with the measured distance is used for measurement. Decrease in the error in measuring the distance is ensured by a decrease in the distortion of the difference frequency signal (DFS) by the parasitic frequency modulation (FM), which is caused by frequency dispersion in the waveguide of the antenna-waveguide tract (AWT). Reduction of distortions is carried out by setting the necessary FM law. Necessary FM law depends on the length of the AWT waveguide and on the distance between the antenna and the object under control, so the process of it’s determination is iterative, but rapidly converging.

EFFECT: achieved technical result of the invention is a decrease in the measurement error of the distance caused by frequency dispersion in the AWT.
