SUBSTANCE: device comprises a sensor (7) for measuring vehicle velocity (4) in a first detection area (8), which provides velocity (vr) data with a time stamp (TS1), a sensor (9) for measuring the configuration of vehicles (4) in a second detection area (10), which provides configuration data (L) with a time stamp (TS2), a video camera (11) for recording images (B) of vehicles (4), pass through a third detection area (12), the video camera providing each image (B) with a time stamp (TS3), as well as an evaluation device (17). The evaluation device (17), which is connected to the video camera (11) and said sensors (7, 9), performs calculation based on measurement data of the velocity (vr), time stamp (TS1) and first detection area (8), and based on measurement data of configuration (L), time stamp (TS2) and second detection area (10), place and time where or when a passing vehicle should be in the third detection area (12) so as to determine the corresponding image (B) from the time stamp (TS3) thereof and the third detection area (12).
EFFECT: enabling vehicle monitoring in traffic.
