SUBSTANCE: location (x_v, y_v) of vehicle (3) in environments provided with at least two check points (11, 11') of known location (x_b, y_b) is defined by appropriate system. The latter comprises at least one scanning distance transducer (9) arranged at the vehicle (3) to measure the distance (R_c) and direction (a_c) from said vehicle (3) to at least said two check points (11, 11'). Besides, it incorporates data processing device (8) to store in its memory the location (x_b, y_b) of said two check points. Vehicle position (x_v, y_v) is defined on the basis of at least that (x_b, y_b) of said two check points, distance (R_c) and direction (ac) from vehicle (3) to said two check points (11).
