SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to determining the location or identification of the rolling stock. A method for estimating the location of a vehicle, mainly a high-speed train, consists in monitoring the actual movement of the vehicle along the route by constructing a matrix of the actual length of the route travelled and comparing it against the matrix of the specified route. At the same time, connectivity matrices are constructed for a set of straight sections and radii of turning sections of the route. The actual route of the vehicle is plotted out iteratively and in stages. Determine the coordinates and distances to the characteristic geographical landmarks, measure the distance and speed of approach to the vehicle in front, and determine the maximum permitted distance for passing along the way. Also claimed is a device for estimating the location of the vehicle, mainly a high-speed train.

EFFECT: expanded functionality of the device for assessing the location of the vehicle.
