FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building, namely to equipment of testing for tightness of articles, and can be used in aerospace and aircraft engineering, nuclear industry, instrument making and other industries related to manufacture of articles with high degree of tightness. Method of controlling tightness of elements of the article housing involves isolation of the controlled elements (welded and detachable connections, shells of the housing, etc.) by means of overlapped local vacuum chambers, production of working vacuum inside the local chambers, testing gas (helium, helium-air mixture, etc.) pressure supply into the article housing volumes, subsequent recording and measurement of testing gas flows inside each local chamber insulating the controlled elements of the housing. After mounting the overlapped local vacuum chambers the article is placed into the general vacuum degassing chamber, and prior to controlling tightness of the volume of this chamber the atmospheric air is removed to get the residual pressure less than 1·10-1mmHg. Operations of the article housing elements testing can be combined with the control of total tightness of the article housing at the residual pressure in the volume of the general vacuum degassing chamber less than 1·10-4 mmHg.

EFFECT: technical result is higher sensitivity of tightness control for the article housing elements.
