FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of converting hydrocarbons. A method of converting non-equilibrium C8-aromatic material is described. The material is brought into contact with a catalyst bed. The catalyst includes binder-free zeolite aluminosilicate particles, MFI zeolite and one or more metals selected from group VIII, VIB and VIIB metals. The open pore volume is at least 0.65 cm3/g. A gradient of crystallinity of the particles having increasing degree of crystallinity from low crystallinity of the internal part, having relative crystallinity of 10-50%, to high crystallinity of the external part, having relative crystallinity of 90-100%. Temperature in the conversion zone in conversion conditions is 340-500°C, pressure ranges from 100 kPa to 5 MPa, and the hourly average rate of feeding the material is 2-50 h-1.
EFFECT: high concentration of the xylene isomer with reduced loss of aromatic compounds and processing costs.
