FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: probing radio signal is emitted towards a vehicle, a response signal is received and speed is determined by measuring Doppler frequency shift. To this end, the vehicle is fitted with a response signal unit which generates and emits the response signal of the vehicle. Said unit contains information on said vehicle. After receiving the response signal, information on the vehicle is extracted therefrom and signals are generated, which correspond to the identification number of the vehicle and the speed of the vehicle.As the response signal unit a piezoelectric crystal whose surface is coated with a thin-film aluminium interdigital transducer of surface acoustic waves is used. The interdigital transducer consists of two comb electrode systems connected to each other by bus lines which are connected to a microstrip transceiving antenna, and a set of reflectors.
EFFECT: high reliability of detecting and identifying vehicles.
