SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of intermediate compounds for producing a valuable herbicide of formula (3):

where R1 is H, R2 is C1-4alkyl or C1-4alkoxy. The method includes dehydrocondensation of compounds
and ,
where R1 and R2 are as given above. In the method, the product is converted to the required geometric isomer optionally in the presence of an acid catalyst in a solvent consisting of acetic acid and toluene, xylene or chlorobenzene in volume ratio of 1:3 to 1:5. The reaction is carried out while boiling with a reflux condenser. The new method exhibits excellent solubility of the novel compound - (Z)-2-methoxycarbonylamino-4-(hydroxymethylphosphenyl)-2-butenoic acid, which is significant in a reaction for inhibiting decomposition of a reagent of formula (2).
