SUBSTANCE: embodiments of a user station (STA) and methods for operation in a wireless communication network are generally described. In some embodiments, a STA splits a signal into sub-channels. A signal may be received in a wireless communication channel. A STA may detect a short training sequence (STS) portion of a data packet in one sub-channel from the sub-channels. The STA may apply an interaction technology, such as abstaining from STA transmissions in a channel in response to the detection.
