SUBSTANCE: method of measuring distance using sonar comprises emitting a sounding signal, receiving an echo signal, measuring the time delay between the emission of the sounding signal tem1 and the reception of the reflected echo signal trec1, determining distance using the formula D=0.5C(tem1-trec1), where C is the speed of sound, measuring own travelling speed V, emitting a second sounding signal after a time interval T, measuring the time of emitting the second sounding signal tem2, measuring the time of receiving the second echo signal trec2, determining the speed of sound when moving on the path using the formula C=2VT/{(tem1-trec1)-(tem2-trec2)}, and estimating the measured distance D using the measured speed of sound.

EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring distance.
