FIELD: sound.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to hydro acoustics and is intended for determining sound speed along route. Method is as follows: Stationary source emits at regular intervals T permanent by duration probing signals. Signals are distributed in aqueous medium, and arrive to receiving device, moving in direction opposite direction of propagation of sounding signals. Further, receiver speed V is determined, while receiving first probing signal t1, as well as time of reception of N-th probing signal tN and sound speed is calculated by formula: C = (N - 1)VT/{t1 - tN + (N - 1)T}.
EFFECT: technical result is possibility of measuring sound speed along route, received at reception of several probing signals using one of hydroacoustic measurement channel and without taking into account accuracy of measuring distance.
