SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video encoding and decoding systems. Disclosed is a spatial prediction method for spatial prediction of a pixel value in each pixel position in a current block included in an image. The method includes a step of calculating an integer slope which is applied to the edge of an image which overlaps the current unit based on at least one of a horizontal gradient direction and a vertical gradient direction between pixels in a unit adjacent to the current unit, each being indicated by a spatial prediction mode number, wherein the integer slope indicates an integer value of a slope to be applied to the detected edge; determining a sub-pixel position for each of the pixel positions in the current unit, which is an intersection between the line of the calculated integer slope of the edge which passes through the pixel position in the current unit, and the boundary of a unit adjacent to the current unit.

EFFECT: easier spatial prediction owing to detection of the integer slope of the edge for the current unit based on a vertical and horizontal gradient.
