FIELD: atomic physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of removing radioactive iodine present in a liquid and/or solid body, formed in a nuclear power station or in an installation for processing spent nuclear fuel. Disclosed is a method of removing radioactive iodine using a hydrophilic resin which absorbs radioactive iodine, where the hydrophilic resin is at least one, selected from a group consisting of a hydrophilic polyurethane resin, a hydrophilic polyurea resin and a hydrophilic polyurethane-polyurea resin, and has a hydrophilic segment in amount of 30-80 wt % and in its backbone chain and/or side chain a tertiary amine group in amount of 0.1-50 eq/kg. Versions of the method and versions of the hydrophilic resin used in the method are also disclosed.
EFFECT: disclosed method of removing radioactive iodine is simple and cheap, does not require a source of energy such as electricity, can capture and sustainably immobilise the removed radioactive iodine in the form of a solid substance and reduce the amount of radioactive wastes.
