SUBSTANCE: triggering time period for a second triggering mode is shorter than the triggering time period for a first triggering mode. The disclosed image forming apparatus includes a controller and an image forming unit. Said apparatus has a plurality of triggering modes, which include a first triggering mode and a second triggering mode as triggering modes for the controller. The second triggering mode is configured such that the triggering time period for the second triggering mode is shorter than the triggering time period of the first triggering mode. Said apparatus includes a setting means for setting any triggering mode from the plurality of triggering modes according to a user instruction, a first control means for controlling triggering of the controller in a triggering mode set by the setting means, when the image forming apparatus is to be launched, a second control means for triggering an image forming unit by performing a predetermined initialisation process when the setting means sets the first triggering mode, and triggering the image forming unit without performing a predetermined initialisation process when the setting means sets the second triggering mode, when the image forming apparatus is to be launched.

EFFECT: providing a mechanism which enables fast launch of the entire image forming apparatus.
