FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of sequestering carbon dioxide from fluid medium streams. The method includes contacting a stream of fluid medium with flushing material in the presence of water, wherein the flush material contains a first component containing a calcium oxide source and a source of alkali metal ions, and a second component containing slag in which there is one or more chemically active silicate compounds, wherein the first component is different from the second component and alkali metal ions of the first component raise the pH of the flush material to about 9 or higher in order to increase the rate of reaction of carbon dioxide with the flush material.
EFFECT: invention provides efficient removal of carbon dioxide.
