FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: first, catalyst nanoparticles are mixed with carrying gas flow, then heated hydrocarbon is supplied. Obtained working mixture is introduced into reaction chamber, where hydrocarbon is decomposed in presence of catalyst with formation of carbon material, containing bundles of single-walled and/or double-walled carbon nanotubes, chaotically linked to each other with surfaces and forming aggregates in form of separate patches with area predominantly not larger than 1 m2 and 1-1000 mcm thick. Each patch contains not less than 30 wt % of carbon nanotubes. Patch density is 0.080-0.150 g/cm3.

EFFECT: structure is capable of dispersing nanotubes in different media.
