FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of separating cadmium and silver radionuclides includes dissolving irradiated silver in nitric acid, evaporating the solution, dissolving the formed nitrates in ammonia solution, reducing silver to metal in the ammonia medium with hydroxylamine sulphate at pH higher than 6 and molar ratio of the hydroxylamine sulphate to silver greater than 1, separating the silver metal residue from the mother solution containing cadmium-109 and precipitating any low-solubility cadmium compound from the mother solution.
EFFECT: efficient separation of cadmium and silver radionuclides.
