A wireless field device (102) for use in controlling or monitoring an industrial process (100) includes an interface for interfacing with a processing plant (110), configured to communicate with a process fluid. The circuit of the field device is connected to the interface for interfacing with the processing plant (110) and is configured to measure or control a process parameter. A wireless communication circuit (154) is configured to provide wireless communication for at least one electrical access terminal configured to provide an electrical connection with the electrical circuit of the field device. The power supply (160) is configured to power the wireless field device. The power supply (160) includes a detachable primary power supply (162) for supplying electrical power for the field device (102) for long periods of time. A secondary power supply (164) is configured to supply electrical power for the field device (102) when the primary power supply (162) is removed.
