FIELD: atomic physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear engineering and can be used in heavy liquid metal cooled reactors. The fuel assembly comprises a tail, a head, a canning tube and fuel cells, wherein the said tail, head and canning tube are made of materials which are denser than the coolant and which prevent the fuel assembly from floating in the said coolant. The volume of the tail, except the central channel for pumping the coolant, is filled with a material which is denser than the coolant, for example, tungsten, platinum or uranium. The fuel used in the fuel cells is, for example, uranium carbides and nitrides.
EFFECT: preventing floating of the fuel assembly in the heavy liquid metal coolant of nuclear reactors.
