FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the device intended to measure wear patterns for cathode and anode in side-wall accretion(s) of the aluminium electrolysis cell filled in with aluminium melt and complete with side-wall accretion(s). The device comprises positioning system with movable and fixed elements and poker with heat-resistant tip for dipping into melt at the cathode or surface of side-wall accretion(s) of the aluminium electrolysis cell, at that the movable element is fixed to the poker while the fixed element is designed to determine position of the poker tip by determining position of the movable element. The invention also claims the method to measure surface patterns in the operated aluminium electrolysis cells by the above device, dipping the poker tip of the device into aluminium melt at the cathode and surface of side-wall accretion of the aluminium electrolysis cells, and determining position of the poker tip position as height of the cathode or side-wall accretion in the given point at the electrolysis cell.
EFFECT: fast and accurate determination of wear pattern for the cathode and side-wall lining of the electrolysis cell without interruption of its operation.
