FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the electrolytic production of aluminum. Electrolyzer for producing aluminum containing an anode, a cathode in a position separated from the anode, a bath of molten electrolyte in fluid communication with the anode and cathode, the electrolyzer housing containing a side wall and a bottom. Body of the cell is made with the ability to hold the bath of molten electrolyte. Side wall contains a second side wall part that overlaps with the first side wall part, and this overlap is between 0 % and no more than 90 % of the total height of the side wall of the electrolyzer. Side wall contains a polarized part of the side wall, which is not more than 95 % of the side wall and is in fluid communication with the bath of molten electrolyte. Side wall ranges from 5 to 500 mm in thickness. Polarized part of the side wall contains an anodically polarized side wall located above the bottom of the electrolyzer housing and adjacent to the bath-steam interface, the anodically polarized side wall is in communication with the bath-steam interface.
EFFECT: ensuring the integrity of the electrolyzer.
