SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to eye protection devices. An eye protection device with an automatic darkening filter comprises: a liquid crystal filter having the first and second control terminals; the first and second driver circuits connected to the said first control terminal, each of the said first and second driver circuits having a separate control input; the third and fourth driver circuits connected to the said second control terminal, each of the said third and fourth driver circuits having a separate control input; the first, second, third, and fourth time delay circuits connected respectively to the said control input of the said first, second, third, and fourth driver circuits; the first, second, third, and fourth switches connected respectively to the said first, second, third, and fourth time delay circuits, each of the said first, second, third, and fourth switches configured to connect its respective time delay circuit to an on voltage supply or an off voltage supply; and a switch control circuit configured to alternately operate the said first and fourth switches concurrently and the said second and third switches concurrently. The method comprises periodically changing the polarity of voltage applied to a pair of control terminals and delaying the application of voltage of the first polarity for a predetermined time following the removal of voltage of the second polarity.
EFFECT: use of the present group of inventions enables to reduce mechanical tension in electrical components and reduces battery consumption.
