FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy, particularly to production of composite material by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) in mold. Device for SHS initiation in a charge billet comprises the split-type preignition chamber ready to be installed in the mold wall. Preignition chamber consists of interconnected housing with two through channels and a lid with an end through channel. Preignition chamber lid contains a powder of deflagrating composition with the possibility of flame jet passage during its combustion through said end through channel in the mold. Electric wire heater is located in the preignition chamber lid with possibility of ignition of the powder of deflagrating composition, the electric wires for power transfer to the heater are laid in said through channels of the housing.
EFFECT: provided is avoidance of ingress of combustion products from SHS initiation device into the volume of obtained composite material.
