FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is related to protective circuits for electric appliances. Protection device (5) is designed to control the electric appliance (3). At that device (3) is made so that it can be connected between source of electric energy and autovehicle (1)-borne unit. Device (5) comprises the circuit (9) for detecting leak current and estimating of pick-up current, which may be connected to lines (4a, 4b, 4c, 8) of eclectic connection for device (3), the circuit (14) for measuring current leakage to ground and device (11) intended to control operation of the device (3) depending on estimated level of pick-up current and measured level of current leakage to ground. The second object includes the method for protection of electric appliance (3).

EFFECT: improved reliability of electric devices for transport vehicles at change in pick-up current level.
