FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the treatment of malignant brain tumors. For this radiation therapy in combination with daily intramuscular dexamethasone and oral administration of metformin 500 mg. Prior to treatment, and 7-10 days after the start of treatment determine the level of C-peptide in the blood serum. In case it does not increase by more than 25% compared to the original value of metformin daily dose does not increase. With increasing levels of C-peptide at more than 25% of the metformin is administered in a dose of 850 mg for days 7-10. Then again determined level of C-peptide. By reducing the level of C-peptide compared to the previous measurement at 5% retain metformin in a daily dose of 850 mg. If the value is not changed or increased - metformin is administered in a daily dose of 1000 mg and continue taking it at this dose until the end of dexamethasone.
EFFECT: method provides compensation for variations in microcirculation and glial elements brain in patients with brain tumor with treatment with dexamethasone and radiotherapy.
