FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an apparatus and method for extraction of hot slag of nonferrous metals such as aluminium and its alloys, magnesium and zinc. Apparatus comprises frame with slag compression ribbed and hollow head with nozzles with air cooling, mould for gathering slag metal, slag catcher installed on it, in bottom part of which there is one or more through drain holes, seal arranged in gap between slag catcher and chill mould, in bottom part slag catcher and/or mould is made at least one through hole for connection of vacuum. Apparatus includes a seal between compression slag head and ribbed slag catcher, cover tightly put on hydraulic cylinder rod to slide along rod and tightly fitting along edge of slag catcher or tightly put on hydraulic cylinder rod slag press to slide along rod in cover there is at least one through hole for connection of inert gas, vibrators of slag catcher and/or head or magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) pumps for metal to drain holes in bottom part of slag catcher.

EFFECT: higher degree of extraction of non-ferrous metal from slag.
