A method of coding video data comprises: coding information indicative of reference pictures relating to a reference picture set; constructing a plurality of reference picture subsets; constructing an initial reference picture list based on the constructed reference picture subsets, when it is necessary to modify the initial reference picture list after constructing the initial reference picture list: determining the index for at least one of the constructed reference picture subsets; identifying a reference image identified in an entry of at least one of the constructed reference picture subsets based on the determined index; and adding the identified reference picture to the current entry of the initial reference picture list for constructing a modified reference picture list; and coding the current image based on the modified reference picture list.
EFFECT: enabling coding of a current image based on a modified reference picture list.
