SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video encoding/decoding. Disclosed is method of encoding video data. Method includes step of encoding information indicating reference image, which relates to set of reference images for current image to be encoded. At that, reference picture set identifies reference pictures which can be potentially used for inter-predicting current image to be encoded, and can be potentially used for inter-predicting one or more pictures following current image in order of decoding. Further, according to method, set of reference images is obtained for current image to be encoded based on information indicating reference image, which relates to set of reference images for current image to be encoded.
EFFECT: high efficiency of encoding/decoding video data owing to simple initialisation of set of reference images.
